Impressive Elementary Science Lab and ProgramBy Diana Wehrell-Grabowski on April 28, 2011 in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Education
Wow, Bartow Academy has it going on! Upon entering the science lab I could tell “real science” was taking place on a daily basis at this school. It’s apparent that the science lab instructor, Mrs. Hughes is passionate about science and her job as the school’s K-5 science lab teacher. The school has an outdoor science classroom, butterfly garden and more. K-5 students spend time in the science lab on a weekly basis as well as visiting the outdoor science classroom and garden. They have received a STEM grant and are in the process of upgrading their science and computer labs, and providing STEM teacher training opportunities for all of their staff. Quality science education programs do not come easy. It takes the entire staff , supportive administration and local community to build a quality science program seen at BartowAcademy. I look forward to visiting Bartow Academy next month when I conduct a second STEM teacher training workshop. The following photos were taken in the Bartow Academy Science Lab and outdoor classroom. Kudos to Bartow Academy for providing an enriching science education experience for all their students.
