Ellen Ochoa New K-5 STEM School in Grand Prairie, TexasBy Diana Wehrell-Grabowski on August 14, 2013 in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Education
#STEMTEACHERTRAINING Just back from Grand Prairie, Texas where I had the pleasure of conducting two days of hands-on-minds-on STEM teacher training to a motivated and excited group of K-5 teachers. The STEM teacher training workshop took place at the Ellen Ochoa STEM Academy at Ben Milam Elementary in Grand Prairie, Texas. This is a brand new state of the art K-5 STEM school, it’s an amazing facility. One can easily visualize the high-level of teaching and learning that will be taking place in this school. During the two days of training, teachers were introduced to a wide-array of basic STEM philosophy and content including: critical thinking, reflective journaling, STEM walks, patterns and shapes in nature and in man-made designs, math and architecture, materials science, ramp science, polymer science, and more. Looking forward to seeing what the teachers and students of Ellen Ochoa STEM Academy undertake during their first year of operation.
