Had the pleasure of visiting Illinois last week to introduce K-6th grade teachers to the Next Generation Science Standards: NGSS. During the day-long session teachers were introduced to the six conceptual shifts in the NGSS, the components of the NGSS, 3 dimensional learning, inquiry-based teaching practices, 21st century skills, and the engineering design process. Teachers were actively engaged in conducting inquiry-based investigations, communicating and collaborating with their peers, journaling and more. The NGSS requires a major paradigm shift in how we teach and think for both the teacher and student. Districts will need to provide quality, long-term sustainable professional staff development for K-12 teachers, as well as administrators in order for the learning goals of NGSS to be attained. For more information about the NGSS and STEM teacher training workshops I provide worldwide contact me via the contact page on this website. The following photos were taken during the NGSS teacher training workshop.
