I had the privilege of being invited to be the keynote speaker for the Creative World School Fall Conference in Tampa last month. I conduct numerous early childhood STEM teacher training and interactive keynotes to early childhood organizations and corporations throughout the world year-round. I’d have to say that the Creative World School foundational principles are “spot on”, providing for an enriching, engaging, and meaningful learning experience for all the children that attend their schools. Creative World School Centers are located in Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, and Virginia, serving preschool through school-age children in afterschool programs. Creative World School is a unique and progressive educational corporation for several reasons: They have an Exploratorium, a room where children are able to freely explore, investigate, discover, and flourish daily. Secondly, they teach via inquiry thus, the curriculum and instruction is student-driven vs. teacher driven. Thirdly their foundational principles are based upon the following 3E’s: Education= Thinking +Questioning= Learning, Exploration: Hands-On Discovery of our World, and Enrichment: The Spark That Inspires Inspiration. During the interactive STEAM keynote Creative World School Directors, and administrators were introduced to STEAM practices and content in an interactive setting. Participants were introduced to the 4C’s of STEAM: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration, they were given an engineering design challenge to undertake, were introduced to meaningful technology to incorporate within the classroom, additionally they were introduced to children’s literature with STEAM-based themes. This was a great group of educators who embraced the powers that STEAM practices and content can have on providing an enriching educational environment that will help to prepare children for the 21st Century, as well as develop a life-long love of learning and STEAM. In addition to the interactive STEAM keynote Dr. Diana Wehrell-Grabowski conducted two hands-on-minds-on, inquiry-based STEAM breakout sessions to Creative World School teachers and administrators. The following photos were taken during the keynote and breakout sessions.
